End Summer Hunger: We Urgently Need You!
For many children, summer should be a time of joy, not a time of hunger. Let's change this together.
There is an immediate but brief opportunity to end summer hunger
In San Diego County, an estimated 69,000 students and their families are eligible to recoup P-EBT 2.0 benefits, but they only have until August 1st to make their request. At up to $1,200 per student, helping families recoup PEBT 2.0 benefits is, by far, the single most important opportunity we have to reduce summer hunger in 2023.
We urgently need funding
(1) to lead and facilitate a major communication and outreach campaign with schools and nonprofits in July; and (2) to support families in activating their cards and in troubleshooting reissued cards that don’t arrive or have an incorrect amount during August and September. The state opened the helpline after our P-EBT outreach contract ended, leaving us without funding for this critical effort.
