Hunger Action Day Draws Anti-Hunger Advocates to State Capitol
/On May 13th, our CalFresh Outreach Coordinator Marcia Garcia traveled with Feeding America San Diego staff, volunteers, and advocates to the State Capitol in Sacramento for the 2015 Hunger Action Day. The annual event brings together anti-hunger advocates from across the state to meet with their legislators in Sacramento to educate them on hunger issues and encourage them to support anti-hunger legislation. This year, the group advocated for AB 474, a bill that is seeking to increase the SSI allotment to above the federal poverty level (read our policy brief for more information); AB 1321, a bill that seeks to create the Nutrition Incentive Matching Grant Program to incentivize healthy purchases for CalFresh recipients; AB 515, a bill which would provide tax credits to farmers who donate fresh produce to local food banks; and AB 1240 which seeks to increase the number of schools that provide breakfast for their students.
